The original Goal Post Pub was founded in 1896 in a rural town just north of Galway.  In the mid 1970's a couple of Irish immigrants moved to Chicago to make a better life for themselves.  Through hard work and resourcefulness they quickly realized their dream.  There was only one thing missing....a place to unwind after a days work.

After many a discussion (and a pint or two), they decided to build a Pub and name it after the famous Goal Post Pub back home.  The pub's design was etched on the back of a cocktail napkin during an all night planning session and can be found proudly on display behind the main bar.

Once they received the official approval from the local village, the build-out was started.  With a lot of help from friends and family the new Goal Post Pub was built in 39 days and opened 60 days from the start of the build.  The cornerstone of the new Goal Post Pub was taken (with permission) from the original Goal Post Pub and the Pub was blessed by the Honorable Cardinal Cody and Father Flannigan(boys town) during the grand opening on July 4th 1976, the bicentennial of this great country.
